50.)THIRD REICH PROTOTYPE INFANTRY ASSAULT BADGE, REPRODCUTION: Angolia was convinced that this design was a prototype infantry assault badge, a design that was submitted for approval but never accept by the Wehrmacht. In any event, this fine example is a copy of a copy if you will, an early 1960's reproduction of the prototype itself. Dimensions are 45x56mm at its widest points, much like a standard Infantry Assault Badge. Metal composition appears to be a fine quality nickel-silver alloy, solid construction and darkly toned with patina. Reverse shows a disturbingly good quality assault badge type hinge and long pointed pin, no doubt leftover original stock. This is a rare, rare badge even as such a copy of a prototype. Reference Angolia's Military Awards of the Third Reich, page 84. We're not likely to ever locate another example! SOLD
