G8617.)IMPERIAL PRUSSIAN JAGER INFANTRY SHAKO: I love this imperial Prussian World War One light infantry shako in a great state of preservation. Body is smooth black patent leather as well as the crown and front and back visors. All stitching is intact and strong. Surface of patent leather on all components shows crazing from the years. Some mild chipping to the patent leather surface on crown. Ventilation grommets on each side of helmet. At front is a magnificent stamped silver alloy imperial Prussian eagle...shows a bit of age verdigris here and there (green tarnish) which will easily clean off should you care to. Has the original brown leather tabs on the inside where this shako plate has been mounted. Note that the black leather chin strap is a good reproduction replacement; it's old and aged and appropriate to this helmet. Prussian national colors cockade on wearer's right side; no cockade on the opposite side as is correct for such jager headgear. Note too the cloth cockade at front, original. Interior has intact brown leather liner -- very nice to see so intact --soft and supple too. Ink stamped on the inside with size '55' and dated '1916' along with maker 'A.P.Hoffmann, Berlin'. Ask for more photos should you be interested in buying this fine imperial piece of headgear. A treasure, I'd say. EXC+++
