RD888.)ARMY BALLOON OBSERVER'S BADGE IN SILVER: a remarkably fine old and vintage copy, one made to deceive. Just out of a California collection where it resided for years as genuine. Silver frosted finish -- now toned -- on a wartime zinc alloy base. A 'late war' badge that was introduced in 1944.....Ballonbeobachterabzeichen des Heeres. Reverse has typical assault badge type hinge and long pointed brass pin. Marked on the back with maker's code 'L/58'. EXC++++
According to Forman this badge would likely be a $3,000 piece if found.
