OC108.)WWI ROYAL AIR FORCE PILOT'S WING: a stunning piece of bullion wire workmanship, hand-embroidered on 85mm wide (3 1/2") cut-to-shape black wool. Bullion embroidery is perfect and in high relief, breath-taking. Has king's crown at top and with 'RAF' embroidered in bullion at center. Gold bullion wire details are not handsomely toned with years of patina. Note too how the king's crown is decorated with colorful hand-embroidered gems. Wing is in high relief and padded, three-dimensional. Backing is a thin black tissue paper and has metal pin-back clasp. Marked on back to the familiar, premiere military outfitter 'Gaunt' along with 'Montreal'. Also marked with 'Made in England'. EXC++++
