G546.)GERMAN ARMY M42 STEEL HELMET: in a superb state of preservation. We added the chin strap to enhance its attractiveness. Shell is finished with that typical German army rough, sand application. Shows mild wear and age only. Light wear at the crown and around the rim. Finish is easily estimated to be at 95% intact. A few scuffs and scrapes. Note too that the Wehrmacht eagle decal is nearly perfect...only the slightest evidence of age. Original liner is coffee-with-cream shade pigskin leather, soft and supple and perfect. Has its original draw string and is ink stamped with size '59'. Rear stitching seam on liner is strong and robust. Mild wear to the leather where folded over the helmet liner band. Underside of shell is stamped with maker's code 'NS' and large shell size '66'. Has production code at rear skirt. Brown leather chin strap is an addition. It shows wear and age...we added it for free. Note that the chin strap has split to it near the first adjustment hole. EXC++++
