RD605.)IMPERIAL BAVARIAN UHLAN TSCHPKA: characteristic four-sided headgear of imperial German lancers. Just and exceptional old piece of workmanship, handsome as hell. Smooth black patent leather hard body with brass trim around the front. Has brass lobster scales chin strap (with the proper black leather and buckled underside) fastened at one side correctly with decorative, gold rosette while on the wearer's right side national colors cockade. At front is high quality gold finished and burnished stamped alloy Bavarian shield. Square pedestal at top is of black leather, double-layered and with red fabric base. Has bullion cockade at side and with brass hook that holds the long and decorative white/blue Bavarian colors shoulder cord and waffles with fringe. This long cord was fastened to the uhlan uniform and prevented the tschpka from being lost if having fallen off of the lancer. Interior has ersatz brown leather liner which is ink stamped with Bavarian army issue depot marking and date 'BAA 1916' for Bekliedsungamt Augsburg=Issue Depot Office at Augsburg, Bavaria. Double-layered leather square at top needed some minor repairs where it separated from the years and the silver bullion cockade shows some wear and age.
