G628.)3rd RCH GERMAN ARMY NCO'S SWORD WITH KNOT: a fine example of the dress sword for German army officer candidate NCO's (fahnrich). A particularly long sword at 40" with slightly curved, nickel-plated blade. Marked on the ricasso to the premiere edged weapons maker showing squirrel-holding-sword logo and 'Carl Eickhorn, Solingen'. Has brown leather buffer pad. Nickel-plated cross-guard and hilt. Has Wehrmacht ealge/swastika logo on the lanquet. Black composition grip is intact and has flawless brass twisted wire wrap. With officer's sword knot tied in the correct configuration. Knot shows mild wear and age...it's green leather with silver bullion machine embroidered stitching, silver bullion cord ball. All of the smooth black enamel finish remains on the steel scabbard and is intact but for overall surface crazing. Identical to the example illustrated and described in Angolia's reference work Swords of Germany 1900/1945 page 75 (top left) and identified as Eickhorn's 'Model 189'. EXC++++
