G1041.)WWII GERMAN INFANTRYMAN'S PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM, KILLED-IN-ACTION: a rather spectacular wartime photo album as put together by this KIA infantryman's wife. She lovingly preserved the memory of this wartime service in this deluxe 9x12" photo album. She accumulated 159 black and white photos and snap shots as taken by her husband 'Herbert Schleicher' who served on the Eastern Front and was killed-in-action on December 1st, 1943. All of the photos were captioned by here in white ink. All of the photos are clear and good quality, mostly 3x5" format. Lots of great photos showing comrades and training , great uniform studies. Starts with his conscription into the German army 1940. Photos of him in Poland and East Prussia circa 1940-1941. A number of outstanding 3x5" photos captioned by her and translated from the German to: "My dear, good Herbert in East Prussia 1940-1941'. Another excellent photo of a comrade is captioned 'Kamerad Mockel aus Innerbach gefallen Dez. 1942' (Comrade Mockel at Innerbach, Killed-in-Action December 1942'). Lots of photos of the Eastern Front campaigns; knocked out Soviet armor, wrecked Soviet planes and burned out house and villages. The last photos are of his grave in military cemetery, Russia. These photos were sent to her from the German army along with a glassine envelope containing the pine needles from the wreath placed on his cross. Note that these photos show the date of his death '12/1/1943' and his infantry regiment being 'Grenadier Rgt. 504'. There are eight photos of his grave and this military cemetery. On the first page is 3x5" pre-war photo of her husband attired in a business suite and her dedication -- including a lock of his hair -- 'Mein lieber Herbert, mein herzensguter Mann' (My dear Herbert, my heartfelt, good man). Decorative leatherette album with M35 helmet motif on cover and 'Meine Kriegserinnerungen' (My Wartime Chronicle). EXC++++
