Recently examined by expert George Petersen and approved as being genuine period; yes this truly is smoke troops waffenfarbe. Beautifully tailored by the elite and premiere hat maker 'Erel' and so marked. Shows a perfect profile and shape, high peak. Tailored of an officer quality field gray wool and piped around the crown and around the upper/lower cap band with burgundy wool for smoke troops. Both the national eagle device and cockade are orignal to this cap and both are darkly toned high quality silver alloy. Separately applied national colors rosette in center. Silver bullion chin cord fastened at sides with silver pebbled buttons. Has intact and near perfect smooth black patent leather visor with brown, checkered underside. Interior has perfect light brown leather sweat band, stitching is strong and perfect. Lined inside with champagne colored silk-like fabric and with intact, clear celluloid moisture shield. Marked to the premiere hat maker 'Erel' with silver lettering which is faded from the years. Embossed too on the sweat band with 'Erel Patent Stirndruckfrei' (patented pressure-free tailoring). This is a remarkably fine visor cap in a superb state of preservation. No mothing. EXC++++
