RD3288.)WWI GERMAN M16 STEEL HELMET; RESTORED: a fabulous original steel shell that's been handsomely restored. Note that the original camouflage scheme -- geometric disruptive pattern with typical black borders -- is faintly evident beneath the overall plumb-brown surface toning. This is a battle-damaged shell with a large shrapnel dent at the front, upper crown (1" wide) and two subsequent cracks. Man that must have stunned him! Has heavy leather liner band and leather liner with cushion pads, aged and distressed and looking very much like it's original period. At first glance I thought that this liner was original period. Brown leather chin strap is also and old copy and is maker marked 'G. HEININGEN, DRESDEN' along with '1917' date. Interior of shell is plumb-brown with oxidation. Great helmet! EXC+++
