Both the LW eagle and national colors rosette are on black wool underlay and both are meticulously hand applied. This is a super-high quality cap. Interior of cap is lined with blue satin-like fabric and is size marked with black ink stamp '57' although it's actually a size 59 if not a bit larger. Nothing on this cap glows under a black light, a really convincing old piece of tailoring. EXC++++

To check for the presence of optical brighteners be certain to use a piece of white copy paper as a control. The readings are often misunderstood. The white paper will glow a brilliant purple while the subject piece may reflect a lavender cast. This reflected cast can be misinterpreted as showing the presence of optical brighteners. Not so. Do the test in a totally dark environment and from a distance.
