RD3895.)GERMAN ARMY M40 SINGLE DECAL STEEL HELMET: I'm not sure where this helmet was made or exactly hold old it is (likely circa 1980's given its high quality) but it was surely made to deceive. It's constructed of the proper steel and gauge. I had to really check this one over as it at first appeared to be an original period shell that had been re-done with a post-war liner added. Shell is finished with the correct wartime field gray application, rough with sand added as it should be. Really an impressive finish. This is an M40 type shell. Intact quality German army Wehrmacht eagle decal. Coffee-with-cream pigskin leather liner looks exactly what a real one looks like that's never seen any aging. Even has the round leather washers, drawstring. Liner is ink stamped with size '58', Underside of shell is marked with maker's code and size 'hkp 66' (this helmet code is a recognized real one from the period). Rear of skirt marked with production code '1018'. Has quality black leather chin strap, not junk but rather an old copy that's crisply marked on the tip with maker and date 'Wilhelm Ellers, Bielenfeld, 1942'. A really outstanding vintage helmet.
