Tailored of a fine, officer quality, charcoal gray wool and yellow wool piped around the crown and around the upper/lower black mohair wool cap band. Stamped silver alloy eagle and cockade (which appears to be original period, eagle is an old copy). With black patent leather chin strap fastened at side with black-finished, smooth, domed buttons. With the correct black-finished metal buckles. Black patent leather visor shows mild age crazing to the surface from the years -- very convincing -- and has gray, checkered underside just like a real one. Interior is lined with gray silk-like fabric and has clear celluloid moisture shield that's gold printed with hat maker 'BAMBERGER MUTZENINDUSTERIE'. Has ersatz gray leather sweat band that shows wear and age from use. Gray silk decorative bow at rear seam. Nothing on this cap glows under a black light. EXC+++

When testing for the presence of optical brighteners be sure to use a piece of white copy paper as a control. The white paper will glow like the lights of Hong Kong while the fabric will reflect a light purple cast. Big difference between the two; don't confuse them.
