US3461.)WWII US ARMY M-1 HELMET, 1st INFANTRY DIVISION: I am pretty certain that this one's been 'enhanced' if you follow me. The shell and liner are all original, even the liner's brown leather chin strap. Early, first-issue so-called 'fixed bale' M-1 shell with that typical minor wear around the rim. Has its original early light khaki shade #3 canvas duck chin strap with earlier solid brass hook-and-claw release buckle. OD shade #7 finished shell that's been camouflaged with a summer scheme, green hand-applied splotches. At front is hand-painted 1st Infantry Division stencil which I suspect is post-war as is the camouflage scheme. This helmet looks great. An original period OD camouflage net, ETO type tied in 1/2" squares. M-1 helmet liner is in an excellent state of preservation. Stenciled on the sides with some sort of original nomenclature 'D  2'. Inside has early light khaki shade canvas webbing, pigskin leather sweat band original too. Upper interior of liner is marked with Firestone wartime contract logo and has original brown leather chin strap snugly fitted over front visor. Fabulous period helmet that's had some post-war enhancement, I think (camouflage scheme and Big Red One). EXC++++
