US3607.)FANTASTIC USN NAVIGATOR'S WING, BOXED: refer to the excellent website below pertaining to WWII USN wings and badges. Yes, this navigator wing is indeed WWII. Stunning frosted gold on sterling base, 3" full size (70mm). With separately applied astrolabe device on silver disc. Crisp and impressive as hell....only a true WWII period specimen can radiate such class and appeal. Reverse is finished with a now toned burnished gold finish. Horizontal swing pin with roller catch. Flat rivet on the back that's been jeweler tooled and smoothed flush to back of wing, extraordinary workmanship. Reverse is maker marked with raised relief American eagle motif and initials 'H.H.' for the premiere Hillburger-Hamburg USN outfitter. Marked too with '1/20 10k STER' (gold plated on sterling base). Comes in 2x3" cardboard carton with maroon velvet insert. Velvet is gold embossed with '1/20 10K GOLD FILLED'. Carton has a few minor repairs and it's original 3.95 price tag on the underside. You know this one's WWII period with that price! This one's a treasure. Again, note the website below for reference. EXC++++

Note too the official navy comments below which show that this astrolabe USN navigator's badge was created in 1945 only to have a very short existence, abolished soon after and replaced withe more familiar and current USN observer's badge (with anchor in the center): For a brief period starting in 1945, the Secretary of the Navy approved distinct insignia for Naval Aviation Observers with Navigation, Radar, Tactical, and Aerology specializations. These were abolished in favor of the standardized gold insignia/silver anchor/silver circle design.[1]
