US1027.)WWII US NAVY COMBAT AIR CREW WING WITH THREE BATTLE STARS: lovely original WWII period specimen, attractively toned with years of patina. 51mm wide with gold anchor device in the center and having 'AIRCREW' scroll below. With three silver star devices at top separately applied and for a total of ten combat missions (note the narrative below). Reverse has horizontal swing pin and roller catch. Marked on the back in raised relief letters with maker 'GEMSCO, STERLING' along with gold content for the anchor device 'Sterling+1/20 k. G.F.'. An exceptional example. EXC++++

For those who have participated in actual combat missions, gold service stars are worn pinned to the top of the decoration.  Upon earning more than three gold stars, silver stars are awarded in recognition of three gold stars, meaning three silver equates to nine gold plus the initial award of the combat aircrew device
