US1113.)WORLD WAR TWO US ARMY TRANSPORTATION CORPS OFFICER'S VISOR CAP: a rare WWII era cap indeed. The gold US Transportation Corps eagle is a fantastic rarity and is very, very desirable. This cap is navy blue officer quality and shows a strong profile and shape. Black mohair wool cap band. Smooth black patent leather visor and with gold tresse officer's chin strap now darkly tarnished from use at sea for sure. Cap is in a great state of preservation, salty and attractive. Chin strap is fastened at sides with burnished gold American eagle buttons. Cap eagle is spectacular. Similar to a period USN officer's cap device except that the US Army Transportation Corps eagle is in burnished gold (not in silver as with the USN type) and has US Army Transportation Corps device in the center of the eagle's shield. This eagle is a multi-piece device (can be taken apart for polishing) and has threaded screw-post on the back with locking nut. Reverse of eagle is marked with premiere maker 'GEMSCO' and 'Sterling'. Inside has brown oil cloth sweat band, mild wear and age. With cloth size label too '6 3/4'. No mothing. EXC++++

The United States Army Transportation Corps was a combat service support branch responsible for the movement of personnel and material by truck, rail, air, and sea. Established on July 31, 1942, it served as one of the three primary Army logistics branches alongside the Quartermaster and Ordnance corps. Operating under the motto "Spearhead of Logistics," the branch ensured that soldiers, equipment, and supplies arrive precisely where they are needed worldwide.
