RD785.)GERMAN CROSS IN GOLD, NAME ENGRAVED: stellar vintage counterfeit, circa 1960's and one made to deceive. This is a dangerous and clever old copy. Ask for more up-close and detailed photos should you be interested in buying this old gem. 63mm wide from point-to-point and 6mm thick at its center. Constructed of the correct five separate components (not including the hinge/pin assembly). Black glass enamel swastika on now tarnished silver disc. Mild wear to swastika's enamel in center. Stamped brass wreath with the characteristic horizontal lines. Note too the red background beneath the wreath. Starburst is burnished and handsomely toned. High quality, heavy hinge on the back; tapered silver pin. Back of cross is nearly black with silver tarnish. Six perfectly domed rivets on the back and the underside of pin is marked with maker's code '21'.  Jeweler-engraved block letters on the back named to Kriegsmarine U-boat commander recipient 'KAPLT. K. NEIDE' and his boat 'U-415' and date of award '4.4.1944'. A remarkable old fake and one that came out of a Mid-West collection where it resided for years as genuine. Engraving on back is superbly executed. EXC++++

The only reason why you'd suspect this outstanding piece is a fake is because we are telling you that it is.
