An outstanding old shell of the highest quality; steel is the proper gauge and doesn't flex when compressed between the palms. Finish on the shell is the correct LW smooth blue-gray application as shown in the interior and along the rim where there's wear to the camouflage finish. Thick tropical khaki-tan enamel camouflage scheme which is enhanced with a sand/dirt composite. Shows wear and age on the surface with a few scuffs and scrapes; very convincing. Both the LW eagle and national colors decals are painted around. Most of the national colors decal is present, wear and age around the edges. Convincing. LW eagle decal is partially painted over. Brown leather liner is soft and supple and dark from use. Has aluminum liner band and gray composition bumper cushions inside. Ink stamped with both liner and helmet shell sizes: 'Kopfwerte 59' and 'Stahlhaube Cr. 71'. Ink stamped too with familiar liner maker 'Karl Heisler D.R., Berlin C 2'. Gray leather chin harness is soft and supple and is intact. Shows minor wear and age. Has all the proper snaps and buckles. Just and outstanding old piece of restoration workmanship, as fine as any original period LW helmet. EXC++++
