G809.)PRISTINE WWI GERMAN S98/05 BAYONET AND FROG: an indescribably spectacular example in a pristine state of preservation. 20" long overall and with clean, immaculate, natural steel blade. Couple of minor blemishes here and there, a few insignificant disruptions way down at the tip (point). Marked on the opposite ricasso with maker 'FITCHEL & SACHS, SCHWEINFURT'. Spine is crisply marked with Bavarian royal crown monogram, stylized letter 'L' for the Bavarian monarch Ludwig III and date '18'. Natural steel cross-guard and pommel, flash-guard plate....finish on these is smooth, natural, gray steel. Proof-marked too on the bayonet lug button and on the pommel. Intact brown wood grips with diagonal grooves for grip. Die-struck too with royal crown/letter 'L' monogram beneath the cross-guard.  Gun metal blue finish on steel scabbard is intact, mild age only. No rusting nor any oxidation blemishing. Finish is original, not re-blued. Marked too on the scabbard ball at tip. Dark brown leather frog is the wide type for the S98/05. Stitching is intact and strong, leather is soft and supple. Missing one of the rivets. Leather is fainting maker marked on the upper reverse. EXC++++
