G806.)ADMIRAL DONITZ SIGNED LETTER, WARTIME 1942: typed on 8x10" fine letterhead paper and with printed with heading at top 'Befehlshaber der Unterseeboote' (Supreme Commander of the Submarine Service). Dated '27 April 1942' and signed with blue fountain pen 'Donitz' (genuine signature and not a facsimile). This letter translates to Donitz thanking a certain Herr Kohler for his letter of '23.4.1942' and for the fifty copies of his book. Donitz shares with him that he's happy to have copies of Kohler's book (which is about the U-boat ace Gunther Prien) and praises him too for the quality of the narrative writing and the photographs shown. This book, a 'valuable contribution', according to Donitz will cause the spirt of 'our Prien' to live on in the German people and will inspire German youth. Salutation at the end is 'Mit besten Gruss bin ich Heil Hitler' (With My Best Greetings). Letter has been folded and has two binder holes along the far left border. An important, historical treasure.
