RD1098.)WORLD WAR ONE US AIR SERVICE PILOT'S WING: stunning vintage forgery. We just got this one out of an old collection; made to deceive for sure. This is one of those old fakes that you'd easily consider as being genuine. With genuine silver wings motif, chased with details and having separately applied gold 'US' design on shield. Handsome as hell. Mounted to 4" wide (90m wide) black wool underlay that's meticulously hand sewn on the back with seam (as is correct). Wing is mounted to an interior metal frame which you cannot discern given the black wool covering. Has horizontal swing pin on the back. Evans Kerrigan in his 1967 published work identifies this wing as being the circa 1918 type US Air Service aviator's wing. Just totally outstanding; it's a gem. You'll love it.
