RD1099.)WAFFEN-SS M42 SINGLE DECAL STEEL HELMET, TROPICAL CAMOUFLAGE: splendid piece of restoration workmanship being an original period M42 shell that's been professionally recovered with a tropical tan camouflage scheme. Enhanced with the correct rough, sand application and sprayed with a complimenting brown pattern over the tropical khaki-tan. As you know, several Waffen-SS divisions were based in Italy after the 1943 capitulation. Shows wear to finish around the rim and minor scuffs and scrapes here and there on this shell's surface. Super-fine quality reproduction SS runes decal, an old one I'd say, that displays a bit of convincing wear and age. Decal is painted around. Coffee-with-cream shade pigskin leather liner, a really good quality old reproduction as is the magnetic band. Leather is soft and supple with all of its round leather washers and strong ream seam. Ink stamped with liner size '56'. Has oval issue ink stamp inside the crown that's '1943' dated. I do believe that this ink stamp is a post-war addition although I cannot say for certain. This is a genuine shell that is marked on the underside with maker and shell size 'NS64' and production code '2257'. With black leather chin strap -- a good quality copy -- fitted over shell's front visor. Chin strap is maker marked 'Bamberg 1943'. EXC++++
