OC998.)COLD WAR ROYAL DANISH AIR FORCE PILOT'S BULLION INSIGNIA: these are the early NATO type RDAF design, circa 1949. Includes both pilot's wing and pilot's visor cap badge. Both are impeccably hand-embroidered gold bullion wire on gray wool. Cap badge has been removed from visor while the wing itself appears to never have been applied. Wing is padded and sculpted, three-dimensional. Separately applied gold Danish royal shield with glass enameled highlights. Note too the crown which is likewise thick and padded, has maroon velvet details. Just a lovely piece of workmanship, mildly toned with a handsome age patina. Cap badge is on cut-to-shape gray wool underlay Has separately applied shield in center with cockade and gold Danish pilot's wing motif. Darkly toned with tarnish, attractive. Both pieces have thin black tissue paper backing. Both are stunning. These are 70 years old and I cannot overstate the quality of construction and workmanship. EXC+++++
