RD683.)NUMBERED PANZER ASSAULT BADGE FOR 25 ENGAGEMENTS: vintage counterfeit circa early 1980's. This one just came to us out of an old collection and was recently examined by several experts. One expert wouldn't commit ("it could be genuine") while the other -- after some long deliberation -- condemned it as being a clever old forgery. Shows lots of graying from the years, very convincing toning. Wartime zinc alloy wreath and separately applied panzer motif, separately applied '25' plaque at base. Crisp and impressive and with details in high relief. Quality hinge on back, long pointed pin that arches up from hinge. Two silver rivets. Note that construction is the semi-hollow 'scooped out' type. Identical to the specimen illustrated in Niemann's Orders and Decorations of Germany 1871-1945 page 606 (lower left example, reverse view). Just an outstanding, old and dangerous copy made to screw you. If genuine you'd be looking at an $1,800 price tag. EXC++++
