RD1085.)1939 KNIGHT'S CROSS PRELIMINARY AWARD DOCUMENT: okay, this one is really disturbing. It's a genuine 3rd Rch period Knight's Cross award document, one that was never filled out. I know antique paper very well and I can assert without a doubt that this document is genuine Third Reich period. What's frightening about it is that it was filled out years ago on a genuine period German typewriter. Again, this claim is without question infallible. This document could easily be passed as genuine....you would never know and nor would most dealers (if not all). Even the recipient shown was a 1939 Knight's Cross winner, the dates are correct as are his unit and the general officer winner, the dates are correct as are his unit and the general officer's signature at base. Old and perfect typed details -- obviously done in Germany many years ago -- with correct name and rank 'Oberwachmeister Karl Pfreundtner' and his motorized assault gun outfit 'Zugfuhrer i.d.2./St. Gesch. Abt. 244 (mot.)' and translates to "platoon leader with Sturmgeschutz outfit". Date is correct too '10.Sept.1942'. Issued at German army headquarters '2,Oktober 1942'. Signed in ink too at the base in the correct period india ink with 'genuine' signature of 'Generalmajor Wilhelm Burgdorf'. He was at the time with the German army personnel officer in Berlin and is the signer on genuine period documents too (Abteilung Chef Heerespersonalamtes). Burgdorf signature is a really good forgery. This is a splendid old, spurious copy. Really well researched by the faker. This document has two holes on the sides for mounting in the recipient's military personnel file. If genuine this would easily be a $1,800 document! EXC++++
